Family Law solicitors Ruth Allanson and Jo Rowe abseiled down Leasowe Lighthouse on Sunday, June 10 and to date have risen just shy of £900 for the charity's work in Knowsley.
The Lighthouse, formerly used to guide ships into the entrance to the Rock Channel and port of Liverpool, stands 27 metres high on Leasowe Common.
Jo Rowe said: “Though I don’t have a problem with heights, the fear struck me when I had to make the initial lean back.
“The first part of the abseil was quite a challenge for me and I can’t tell you how relieved I was when I was finally back on firm ground.”
Ruth Allanson, who has abseiled previously, thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
She said: “The sun was shining, the views were amazing and the fact that we were raising money for such a deserving charity made it a worthwhile experience all round.”
UK charity Action for Children supports and speaks out for the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people.
Action for Children fund-raiser Helen Noble said: “All proceeds from the abseil will help the charity to continue funding the highly successful Junior Mentoring Scheme which matches children aged between five and 11 with a carefully trained adult mentor who volunteers their time and meets with the child on a weekly basis for 12 months.
“These sessions help children, who are often struggling with behavioural difficulties, to build communication skills, try new or different activities and have valuable problem free time with someone independent of their family or school.
“The abseil is part of a programme of fund-raising activities aiming to raise the £25,000 needed to keep junior mentoring going.
“Mentoring makes real differences to families in Knowsley and without the funds we won’t be able to help these children who are struggling and see real transformations take place. So a big thanks to the plucky pair!”
