We support Porridge Telecom’s cheaper prison phone calls

Here at Canter Levin & Berg, we are showing our support for Porridge Telecom and their plans to bring in cheaper phone calls for Prisoners.

As Criminal Law Solicitors, at Canter Levin & Berg we represent clients going through the criminal justice system as well as those already in prison.

Our solicitors understand how important it is for those on the inside to be able to maintain communication with their families and loved ones during their time in prison; however the established system for phone charges within prisons can make each phone call out an expensive affair.

The costs involved with prison phone calls can cause extra anxiety for prisoners, many of whom struggle to afford to keep in contact with their families. After all, there are many reasons why communication with friends and family is vitally important for those in prison not just for maintaining family bonds but also for making sure there are people ready to support them upon their release.

Cheaper phone calls from prison

The prison calls scheme launched by Porridge Telecom is helping to bring down the cost of phone calls for those in prison. By allocating up to four mobiles with dedicated – and approved – landline numbers, calls can be made from prison at the standard local rate. By sharing the cost of the call through the purchase of Porridge Telecom credit, calls can cost up to 75% less.

With up to four mobile phones registered to each account, it gives the caller from prison far more flexibility with who and when they call. This is great news for those wanting to speak to various family members but who can’t always be sure that they are going to be at home or work to accept their call.
